Dog Toy Name:

Racquetball

racquetball
Raquetball (common variety)

Cost/Location:

$3.00 - a buck a ball! Most department stores have these in the sporting goods aisle.

This is paws-down Emrys' favorite toy. Bergamot has not gotten a turn yet. If the racquetball is out Emrys will ignore all other toys.

The bouncy-ness (bounceocity) drives Emrys wild. The ricochet effect of this ball keeps her guessing. She will not allow Bergamot to touch these balls - even though he looks very interested. These are a bit smaller than a tennis ball. Emrys picks them up and can even catch them in midair. Bergamot has trouble figuring out the right amount of mouth-pressure to use pick them up without sending them shooting out of his mouth! He really hasn't had much time to practice before Emrys crashes into him & snatches it away!

This toy has never been damaged...only lost - the bouncy little buggers! We have been testing them for a year with no casualties.

Lifespan:

1 year and counting.
Update September 2009: We have some of the original Racquetballs from this toy test! It seems that the ones we lost went over the fence...

Cost vs. Durability:

Around 1/4 of a penny day for a year!

Safety:

These balls are smaller than a tennis ball. These balls are not appropriate for larger dogs. Balls and other toys that are too small can easily be swallowed or become lodged in your dog’s mouth or throat.

Boston Proof?

We might be on to something here!
